On January 9th, New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver announced plans to make same-sex marriage their signature initiative in 2012, fast-tracking the bill through the legislature, and setting up a showdown with Governor Christie, who has promised to veto the measure, declaring "the institution of marriage is too serious to be treated like a political football." Despite the veto threat, gay marriage advocates are moving forward and have passed the bill out of Senate committee. They will likely have at least one Republican sign on to the bill in the Senate, and are getting very close to the simple majority needed for passage. Please understand this: The only way to stop them is for you – and all your friends and family – to let your legislators know exactly where you stand on marriage. Please use the form below to urge your legislators to vote no on the SSM bill, and urge your friends and family to join you in this important effort.
