Iowa Marriage Amendment

The Iowa House of Representatives recently voted 62-37 in favor of allowing Iowans a vote on same-sex marriage with a proposed marriage amendment to the state constitution.

The bill now goes to the Senate, where Majority Leader Michael Gronstal has repeatedly pledged to use his power as Majority Leader to block it from coming to a vote, even if it costs him his seat.

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to support the constitutional amendment on marriage that was recently passed by the House (HJR6) and to do everything within your power to ensure that the amendment receives a full and fair hearing and vote in the Senate.

I am concerned that one individual, Senate Majority Leader Gronstal, would use his authority to force his personal opinions on the entire state, denying the people of Iowa the chance to vote on this important issue.

The marriage amendment is simple, straightforward, and supported by the overwhelming majority of Iowans.

This past November showed just how strongly Iowans feel about this issue, as for the first time in Iowa history voters ousted three sitting Supreme Court justices -- because of their votes to impose same-sex marriage on the state.
