The National Organization for Marriage’s (NOM) very first effort to combat the powerful gay marriage political machine was a success said NOM's executive director, Brian Brown. “We’re grateful to the New Jersey volunteers and supporters who helped us get a new message out: no more free pass for politicians who talk one way in Trenton on marriage and another way back home," Brown stated on Wednesday.

NOM's state political action committee helped defeat a pro same-sex marriage incumbent with its efforts in the off-year election.

NOM's state political action helped defeat incumbent Michael Panter in the 12th legislative district. "This is the first time we're aware that a pro-marriage group like ours has helped to defeat an incumbent pro same-sex marriage assemblyman in the Northeast."

In Virginia, NOM's state political action committee contributed $7500.00 to pro-marriage leader Senator Ken Cuccinelli and helped beat back a challenge fueled by a last minute injection of reportedly $100,000 in gay marriage money to his opponent from billionaire Jon Stryker. As of election night, Cuccinelli had won by a mere 94 votes.
